Negotiating Higher Pay
Don't settle for less
Director Non-Profit Organization - (City withheld for privacy), District of Columbia, United States
I demanded a raise based on my work. I reminded them I have gone beyond the call of duty for the past two years. Don't you think it's time to do a performance review and give me a raise!

Ask for what you want
Property Manager - (City withheld for privacy), Maryland, United States
Research the market by going to job interviews, look at job ads and see if they list salaries for jobs, and ask people who have a job you might like how much they are earning. Once you have an idea, if you are underpaid, ask for the figure, back it up with data, and ask several thousand dollars above that figure, so that you are not offered less than the market rate. If you are lucky, you might get more than the market rate.

Just ask and wait
Consultant, Healthcare - (City withheld for privacy), Maryland, United States
Just ask and wait. Do a good job and don't lose hope if at first you are denied. If you are valued, the raises will come. If not, move on.

I am Working for two different companies in one, and I am being paid from just one of the companies.
Receptionist - (City withheld for privacy), New Jersey, United States
I have been at my job for about two years now. As I've began learning my position and understanding the ways of this companies system it turns out that my employer's brother owns a company that is combined in the same office as ours. After a few days of hiring I started getting tasks from the brothers company. This is when I felt that I was played by not being compensated appropriately. Seven months passed and I built up the self-esteem to confront him, thats when he gave me a $2.50 raise...I still was not satisfied due to all the tasks I was responsible for that was not mentioned upon hiring. Another year has passed and now I've been confronting him about an annual raise with the thought of all my responsibilities in the office. He basically told me in other words that I cannot make the money that I want b/c I dont have years of experience...Then thats when he tried to offer me 8% which means in my case about a dollar raise....When your in this situatuion and you feel he is sticking to his gunns, I suggest you look for other alternatives. Be smart about and and wait it out until you have plan B set for you!

What are you worth - what did you save them?
Property, Real Estate, or Community Association Manager - (City withheld for privacy), Florida, United States
When Asking for a raise know your achivements, interactions with co-employees, and the savings you have achived for your company or property. Than when asked demonstrate your worth. I saved on property 2.4 million dollars, I asked for a 10K raise they said outragous until I explained what I what had saved them and that had I been a consultant or and insurance adjuster you would have paid me 10% no questions asked, I did it and you feel it is outragous. Thay said they could not afford it, my comment can you afford not to afford me....... I got the raise, unfortuniately My discussion was over heard by another condo member who relayed my comments to another Association I received a 34% increase offer better health coverage and a couple of extra perks......Guess what I now work for a new Association my old one has made two attempts to rehire me both I declined. be confident but not cocky be in control but not a motor mouth be self assured but not egotistical and most importantly be prepared
