Job Description for Activities Assistant
Activities assistants generally work in extended care facilities, community centers, and other educational environments, and assist activities coordinators/directors to ensure that activities go as planned. They may also help their directors choose new activities which enhance relaxation, exercise, and mental stimulation and contribute to psychological, physical, and social development. Activities assistants are also involved in planning, organizing, and directing activities and assisting the instructors who oversee them. Their work is partially administrative, but mostly physically demanding, so it is important to meet minimum physical requirements. The job may involve working with people who have physical or mental limitations or serving as a chaperone when travel is part of an activity.
In this job, it is important to be caring, professional, and patient, and the ability to work well on teams is also important. Both full-time and part-time positions are available, and a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is generally required.
Activities Assistant Tasks
