More Hours/ More Responsiblities/ More Pay
Administrative / Office Manager - (City withheld for privacy), South Carolina, United States
I have worked for the same company now for 6 + yrs and have moved up and being giving nothing but the highest regard. However for the past 3 yrs, my hours were cut from 40 to 30 along with other employees & now that they want me to go back F/T they want me to take it for 50 cents more. 10 more hours, 20 more hrs of work, then they will reduce the other employees hrs, so there's only 60 hrs in this whole office. Companies today know they have you by the tail & that you probably cant just go out and get another job right away becuase of the market. Your stuck between a rock and hard place with no where to go. Frustrated, proative employee living in a tourist town with no where to go from here. What does a person do?

Life Time Learner
Administrative / Office Manager - (City withheld for privacy), Texas, United States
I have worked for this organization for the past 16 years, after having being laid off a Corporate 500 company. When I started working here I took a $6,000 cut in annual pay. I am extremely underpaid for the skills, education and training I possess. The job market was bad then, just as it is now. Since I have been with this organization, I have earned (3) three college degrees and currently working on my 4th, a PhD.

I have competed for promotions on every level and this organization will not advance me nor pay me for what I am really worth. Jobs that I have applied for go to individuals, family and friends with lesser seniority or credentials. I am a proactive employee willing to share my abilities with anyone. I have not done anything to deserve the treatment I have received. Age and race could be a factor, I am not sure.

I am extremely underpaid, and should be earning what my MBA peers at this company are earning 100K+. I agree with most people, who say a college degree does not entitle you, however, it should have allowed me the opportunity to get to the bargaining table.

Corporate Loyalty
Administrative / Office Manager - (City withheld for privacy), Illinois, United States
It is imperative to remember what is most important to you in life. I believe that when you feel overwhelmed then you should analyze why and whatare the factors which cause you so much grief. Corporations spend more and more time being concerned with their bottom line, not their employees. Essentially, people become upset when they are given the infamous pink slip or terminated. Will you ever be paid what you are worth in your current position? Your loyalty to your corporation is misplaced. Do what serves you best and the thank God that you believe in him?

Tabulate all your tasks beforehand. Indicate the time frame for each job, and what extra resources you put into accomplishing the tasks. Also indicate the challenges you faced and how you tackled them. Note that the management was useful, either directly or indirectly, in ensuring your success. Then, display your strategic plan for 3 months, 6 months and 1 year respectively. Finally, indicate why you need the raise and how the company will benefit from your new status.
