An administrative aide performs a wide variety of clerical tasks in an office environment. The tasks performed by the administrative aide vary depending on the industry in which they work, as well as the person or persons they are supporting . Duties commonly performed by administrative aides include word processing, printing and collating documents, scheduling appointments, performing light bookkeeping, coordinating with other departments, and completing any other assigned tasks. Some administrative aides may supervise lower-level office staff as well.
The aide's industry and role determine the education level and certifications required of the aide. For many administrative aides, a high school diploma or equivalent is needed for an entry-level position. As administrative aides may work in a variety of industries, some employers require a college degree related to the field in which the aide will be working.
