I Was Fired
fired, discharged, let go, ????
Administrative Assistant - (City withheld for privacy), Ohio, United States
Under the pretext of a probationary period, I was discharged because I did not learn the job in 2 weeks working time. I was harassed by the manager and I strongly felt my age was the reason I was let go. I was told I did not meet my requirements although I was on a 90 day probationary period.

Remain calm and confident
Administrative Assistant - (City withheld for privacy), Michigan, United States
If you quit, were fired or your position was eliminated here is what you can say:

- You quit because there was no room for advancement. You are an ambtious person that wants to grow with the company and you didn't think there was an opportunity for you to reach your professional goals there.

- If you were fired you can explain that personal issues were conflicting your work performance but those issues have been resolved. Never say anything negative about your recent employer, in fact (with lots of confidence) encourage your interviewer to contact your previous employer for a satisfactory recommendation.

- If your position was eliminated, just say so. It wasn't because your performance wasn't the greatest, it was because that specific function was eliminated or substituted by high tech internet resources (which it's true these days).

You can also say something like: "No matter how good an employer and an employee can be, if there is no chemistry, it is not going to work". They will love to hear that (...because it's true)

Fired! and bouncing back
Administrative Assistant - (City withheld for privacy), Florida, United States
Yes I was fired for something that was not my fault. The Boss had issues with my clothing (which was business casual no tanks or tshirts were worn-Nice work pants & blouses) and she was always trying to touch me. I let her know that she was to keep her hands to herself as it was inappropriate. When it continued I went to HR. She then waited 3 months later to fire me on a false accusation. I let her know that I had caught her in her lie and that I would be leaving per her request as soon as I finished clearing off my desk. She then proceeded to tell me to sit down because she was not through with me yet and I was going to listen to her. I let her know that the conversation was at an end, that I did not have to take her verbal abuse. I walked out of the room with my head held high, packed up what I had left on my desk, Let the other girl in the department know where I was and what had to be done for the customers and then I left.I was told by a few hire up's that walked me out that I handle the whole situation very professionally. I am still unemployed at the moment but this time I am taking my time finding the right match in the next company I work for. Just know there are two sides to every issue. As long as you did your best there is nothing to be ashamed of. When you go for an interview be discreetly honest on why you were let go. Use it as an answer to a learning experience and never use the word fired or terminated on the application you fill out.

life is not always fair
Administrative Assistant - (City withheld for privacy), Texas, United States
I was dismissed for reasons i can't discuss in detail due to my own ethical beliefs. however, the other people involved would gladly lay the blame at my own desk. i wrote a letter according to company policy, it was reviewed by a colleague and signed by my supervisor. this letter resulted in my being dismissed. i was working for a nonprofit and the letter involved a donation.
