Admissions specialists are responsible for admitting, consulting, and marketing for clients, as well as assisting an admissions coordinator with development, recruiting strategies, and implementing duties involving clients. They may also have community outreach and public information duties and must be able to handle multiple clients and their concerns in a coordinated and professional manner.
Admissions specialists often serve as the face of a company and must always be updated and well-informed of ever-changing policies and information. They also assist program developers in creating brochures, fliers, and related materials and may work with the public on outreach plans, informational workshops, or educational seminars to promote the company.
Customer service skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office programs are important in this position, and some overtime including weekends may occasionally be necessary when client-intake is high. Admissions specialists typically work in an office environment with support staff, and some travel may also occasionally be necessary.
An associate's degree in education, business, or marketing and prior administrative or customer service experience are generally required for this position, and machinery used in this work includes copiers, printers, fax machines, multi-line phone systems, and other general office equipment. Admissions specialists must also be able to multitask and work well under pressure with minimal direction.
