The advertising operations manager should have knowledge of all types of advertising that the company uses, such as television ads, billboards, website ads, and search engine ads. The manager may work with a graphic design team and other creative departments in order to collaborate to create optimal advertisements. Working with an analytics team is also important in order to gather current data relating to campaign progress. In some cases, the advertising operations will be directly in charge of carrying out analytics. When problems are detected with advertising, the manager should carry out analyses in order to determine the causes and correct them. It is also important to carry out various tests to determine the feasibility of the success new ads. Therefore, strong problem-solving skills are needed.
This a management position, so past managerial experience may come in handy. Since this is an advanced position, many years of experience in the field is usually preferred. General management duties such as hiring, scheduling, employee evaluations, and providing employee direction are usually expected. In some cases, the advertising operations manager will have to administer training and carry out presentations, so strong public speaking skills are important.
