Airmen must have detailed technical skills, leadership skills, and supervising skills of lower ranked officers. They must complete the Air Force military education, which takes 6 weeks. The rank of this position is just one below a Staff Sargent. This rank is equivalent to a Sargent in the Army or a Corporal in the Marine Corps.
In this rank, the officer is expected to have good standards and be a positive influence on his or her peers. This rank is thought to be more of a transitional rank from Airman to Non-Commissioned Officer. A Senior Airman must show pride and competence. To make it to this rank, the airman needs to be a hard-working individual. Having honed skills will allow an airman to make it up the ladder and be a successful Senior Airman.
