Job Description for Animal Care Supervisor
Animal care supervisors are generally responsible for caring for the husbandry aspects of the animals owned or cared for in a facility. Caring for the animals directly may be a responsibility of the position depending on the number of employees in the facility, and these supervisors may also be tasked with both hiring and terminating employees and creating work schedules on a daily or weekly basis.Read More...
Animal care supervisors may devise treatment plans for sick animals or arrange for veterinary care to address their illnesses or injuries. They may also be responsible for the sales of animals and ensuring that the facility adheres to all state and national health and safety standards.
A high school diploma may be a minimum requirement for this position, and some employers also require an associate’s degree in business management or an animal-related field. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are important in this position to maintain regular contact with the public and employees, and organizational skills are also important to keep all documentation in order and ensure that the facility runs smoothly.
