Job Description for Assistant Restaurant Manager - Casual Dining

The assistant restaurant manger is a position that requires the ability to manage and operate the full front of house team. The assistant manager must perform during the high paced atmosphere of food service and also manage the before and after operations. Flexibility is important and this person must be prepared to work different shifts and irregular hours when needed. The assistant manager is expected to be able to work a shift with very little notice. The ability to manage employees is required for this position and includes reporting problems to the manager. It also includes directing employees during and after service should they encounter issues.
The person is also responsible for interacting with customers and taking care of any problems they have with service or the food. Patience in dealing with the public is much needed for this job. The restaurant employs several assistant managers, and they must people able to work as a team and take directions from the manager. The workplace environment is very hectic, and the amount of customers can swell at any given time so teamwork is very important. A candidate for this position must have a minimum of two years experience in a managerial position of a restaurant. This person must also maintain the proper and current food preparation certifications. People with college degrees in management or business are also preferred. There also should not be any large gaps of unemployment in the applicant's work history. It is also very important that the candidate have recent restaurant management experience since there is not going to be a long period of training.
