An assistant store director works in a retail location (such as a department store or supermarket) under the director of the store. They lead staff members, disciplining, hiring, and firing individuals when necessary. Assistant store directors make sure that staff members are operating in a productive and professional manner at all times. The assistant store director delegates certain duties to staff members as necessary, as well as determines when staffing levels need to be changed. The assistant store director needs to make sure that items in the store are stocked properly, which includes correct pricing and the strategic arrangement of products. Customer service skills are important in this role, as the assistant store director works directly with customers and resolves any disputes that they may have with staff members. When certain departments need additional labor, the assistant store director needs to step in to find a solution, which may even include helping directly. The assistant store director may be directly in charge of providing training for employees as well.
