Job Description for Assistant to the CEO
An assistant to the CEO helps a CEO stay organized and relieves many of the tasks of a CEO so that the CEO can focus elsewhere. An assistant will often answer phone calls for the CEO, answer questions for the CEO, and take messages. A CEO assistant will schedule meetings, business travel, and hotel stays. Strong computer skills are important, as an assistant may be expected to keep a digital calendar for the CEO and to create presentations or reports for the CEO. Some correspondence and communication may be carried out by an assistant on the CEO’s behalf. A CEO assistant may also work with others within the company on the CEO’s behalf. An assistant will also often be expected to work with clients and investors. Because of this, strong communication skills are necessary, along with the ability to work well under pressure. Research, analyses, budgeting, and accounting are other important tasks that are often carried out by an assistant.
Tasks assigned will vary depending on the CEO. Work is usually carried out during the day time. However, extended hours may be required when necessary, especially when the CEO is traveling. Educational requirements vary greatly, though a bachelor’s degree is usually a minimum requirement. The field of study may have to relate to the field where the assistant works.
