Associate store managers may be given specific areas of direct supervision; in larger stores, they may serve as a sort of department manager by maintaining control over one section of the store. They may also be tasked with interviewing job applicants, training new employees, or performing store opening or closing duties.
In all cases, the associate store manager helps ensure that all operations are running smoothly; this includes ensuring that cash-handling procedures are followed and facilitating customer service and returns. Associate store managers also help keep the store clean and organized and often delegate employees under their supervision to restock and straighten all customer contact areas.
Generally, education requirements are not strict for this position. Applicants should have at least a high school diploma, and employers may prefer candidates with an associate's degree other post-secondary education. Many employers also prefer those with a great deal of practical experience, and may promote those already within their company for the position. Associate store managers typically work in retail environments during traditional weekly business hours.
Associate Store Manager Tasks
- Sell the organization's products and/or services to new or established customers; handle and resolve escalated customer complaints and issues.
- Assist in managing the selection, training and development of staff; ensure monthly sales quota are met.
