Banquet set up attendants are responsible for setting up and cleaning up banquet events for their organizations, as well as facilitating banquet-related activities such as organizing tables, setting plates, and accommodating chairs. They must be organized and pay close attention to detail to execute quality presentations before events begin, and should also work well in a team setting to achieve goals in a timely manner. They should also be able to stand on their feet for several hours, carry heavy objects with care, and follow strict safety guidelines to prevent accidents.
Banquet set up attendants must verify that all necessary objects are set up, clean, and provide good experiences for guests. They also communicate with guests to resolve their inquiries and direct them as necessary, and may need to follow directions and execute banquet orders as requested by managers or supervisors. They may move banquet items to be washed and carry all accessories for storage, as well as verify that all linens, table decorations, and silverware are ready for use. They may also help to stock food items and order new supplies as necessary and help maintain and clean specialized banquet equipment before shifts conclude.
Strong communication skills are important in order to report any issues to a banquet supervisor, and they should also work well on their own with minimal supervision. They also assist with room-cleaning and ensuring that rooms are ready for subsequent events. A high school diploma is generally required for this position, and prior work experience with banquet events is highly beneficial.
