Close attention to detail is important in this position to maintain volume quotas and quality control standards. There may be deadlines, so bindery workers must be able to work well independently to meet these deadlines. They may need to conduct periodic maintenance and/or troubleshooting on machines to ensure they are functioning properly, and it's important to keep the work area neat, organized, and free of hazards at all times.
Duties of the job must be carried out in a safe manner in accordance with company policies and local and federal regulations, and inventory duties are often necessary to ensure that consumables are being used properly. They may need to notify vendors or management when supplies are low, and both part-time and full-time positions are available for this work. Some prior experience may be necessary, though some employers offer on-the-job training, and the work environment may occasionally be noisy due to the machinery involved. A high school diploma is often a minimum requirement for this position.
Bindery Worker Tasks
- Set up and run bindery equipment, including folders and cutters.
- Conduct quality inspections, ensuring speed of production and quality standards are met.
- Maintain inventory and supplies record, tracking all uses.
- Prepare and finish products, including scoring, cutting, padding, collating, addressing, and shrink wrapping.
