Job Description for Bus Person
Bus persons are tasked with ensuring that tables are clean and maintaining the orderly appearance of the restaurant. They generally clean all tables after a party leaves the restaurant, take dishes to the kitchen to be washed, and vacuum or sweep all debris on the floors and underneath the tables. They may also bring bread, butter, and water to the table before a waiter or waitress come to take guests' actual orders.Read More...
Depending on the restaurant in which a bus person works, they may be tasked with seating all incoming guests as well as thanking guests who are leaving. At times, a bus person will be assigned restroom duties and will need to check throughout their shifts to ensure that everything is stocked, in order, and working properly. They may also wash dishes and cutlery on occasion.
There are no formal educational requirements for this position, and most bus people are hired and taught the job by other bus people who have prior experience. Some bus people may take part in training sessions which cover the restaurant's health and safety policies, as well. It is essential that those in this position generally remain clean and use proper hygiene at all times, such as washing hands before returning to work.
Bus Person Tasks
