The chief mammography technologist is a position that is usually sought after by hospitals or other research institutes that are affiliated with healthcare. Most employers are looking for prospective applicants who have at least graduated from high school, although some employers may be looking for bachelor's degrees. However, all employers will be looking for applicants that have completed a radiography program, such as one from an accredited school. Some experience would be helpful, as a few hospitals do look for applicants that have worked within the healthcare system. The chief mammography technologist will also need to have current licensing in the state that they will be working in. They will also need to be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in some cases.
The chief mammography technologist will be primarily responsible for operating various pieces of medical equipment, such as x-ray machines, in relation to mammography. They will need to work with film and be able to develop, define, and clean up details on the final prints. They will also be responsible for maintaining their equipment and making sure that all files and records are organized and easy to retrieve. The chief mammography technologist may also need to communicate with patients from time to time to give advice on procedures or explain details. The technologist must follow all state and government regulations and uphold any internal standards within their workplace. The chief mammography technologist will usually be working with other mammography technologists and will be reporting to a department head or manager.
