Child, Family, or School Social Worker - (City withheld for privacy), New York, United States
Being a seasoned social worker currently re-entering the work force, I came up with an idea that incorporates all of my experiences into one binder, notebook etc. hence, "The Brag Book". I made sections specific to my needs, for example,a section for my resume, letters of recommendations, evaluations, certificates, liscenses, trainings, etc. I included documents that I prepared (white out the names of course)such as IEP's and assessments to show my style and competencey. I also added pictures throughout my job, and included any "EXTRAS" that I did, provided, whether mandatory or not, demonstrates that I am a team player. This actually turned out to be a fun project despite the fact that "crafty" is not my middle name!! OH, Don't forget to make sure you have enough copies of your resume and anything else that you may refer to for everyone. I got rave reviews so far. In addition, I was amazed how I was cutting myself short. As I put this book together, I was really enlightened and reminded of how much knowledge I have. Which boosted my confidence a great deal. Hope it helps you. Love to hear some feedback. Good Luck!!

Getting Fired
Child, Family, or School Social Worker - (City withheld for privacy), California, United States
I was fired as Case Manager from a social services provider in may of 06. I have been sending out numourous resumes and applications, to no avail. Any who, I was fired because I left work. I was out of work and given a doctors excuse for 7 days. It just so happens that this was the begining of the month when billing is due. So I was called and asked about the billing and that it needed to be turned in, so what I did was went to work and turned in the billing and gave my employer a copy of the doctors excuse and stated that i needed to use my computer to e-mail the billing sheet over to the program director. So i did, and before i left i informed the secretary that i would be leaving and if she could give the hard copies to the Director, and the doctors note, and that i would be leaving since i had my doctors excuse. She said fine, called my director she was in a meeting. So I left, 3 days later I was fired for leaving work without notification. I tried getting unemployment, no dice, and now I have heard that I may have been black listed from the company, and I believe it is true, I have not been able to get a job for over 5 months. Be careful who you work for!!!!!!
