Claims Adjuster / Examiner / Investigator - (City withheld for privacy), California, United States
I began my career as a Liability Claim Adjuster and after many years of learning the "nuts & bolts" of my business, I was promoted to Sr Claim Examiner. It took a while, but I soon realized that my best offense was a strong work ethic and a continuous yearning to keep up with my education and industry changes. I would advise anyone in my field or similar positions to remember that as Claims professional, you have a lot of responsibility and decision-making power. You must find a way to make yourself competitive and "stand apart" in a positive way from your peers or competition. You must learn to work in collaboration with your boss or bosses and strive to achieve the set goals for your department. At times, you may be tempted to ignore their advice or directives because you think He/She is not that smart. In many cases, you may be right to question their level of competence. But you must resist this urge and keep striving to work in a team environment. Remember there is no "i" in team. Also stay clear from gossip that may be all around you.
