Job Description for Clay Modeler

Clay modelers are tasked with creating full-sized models of many large items, such as cars, appliances, and watercraft. These modelers generally work closely with sketch artists who have created the baseline for development of the clay model, and much measurement and acuity are involved in the clay modeler’s tasks. Generally, they must continuously smooth out their work as they go along to ensure that the clay remains even throughout the model. Creativity and working with one’s hands are important skills for the position. Normally, a company will provide a sketch from another employee within the facility, and then the clay modeler must use their imagination while transforming a 2D sketch into a 3D design.
