Job Description for Coding Supervisor
Coding supervisors work within hospitals and medical offices and are responsible for coordinating and managing the medical coding staff. Those in this position often work on teams with other office personnel and medical staff and generally work traditional business hours, though this may greatly vary depending on the organization. An associate's degree may be a minimum requirement for this position, and a bachelor's degree is often preferred with specialized experience in medical coding. Coding supervisors are responsible for the actions of the medical coding staff within a health care office, and the position may also have extended duties, particularly in small offices. Typical responsibilities include: supervising all staff who work with medical records; maintaining accuracy and security of patient records; ensuring that all software is up-to-date; establishing, and implementing changes in, coding policies; coordinating with other managers and physicians, and departments of the company; evaluating personnel; and ensuring adherence to all current coding practices.

Coding Supervisor Tasks
- Assist in hiring, training and reviewing performance of staff.
- Supervise the medical coding staff in the evaluation, compilation and reporting of medical records and coding information.
- Review patient medical records to ensure proper coding of condition and treatment, using ICD-9-CM and CPT and other standard classification coding systems.
- Ensure compliance with internal processes and procedures, state and federal mandated regulations.
