Consultants develop and establish strategic priorities for technical institutions and community colleges, help to build critical relationships in higher education, and develop programs that blend efforts across both the workforce and higher education areas.They must possess a solid understanding of the objectives of technical institutions and community colleges. They share knowledge that assists in the planning of development and have the ability to tactically analyze existing markets and identify potential areas of opportunity. They also provide subject matter and expertise on a range of topics relevant to applicant's background. Consultants have input on projects and material for reports and presentations and are responsible for writing assessment reports.
Consultants of education/training typically work 20-40 hour workweeks, and most require an advanced degree. They develop project protocols and parent training manuals for dissemination/publication and train and supervise project staff or graduate students in protocol and manual use. Prior experience with students and parents are strongly recommended. A broad understanding of this field and ability to develop strategies are important in being a consultant for education/training.
