These directors are tasked with overseeing marketing programs and how content will be used, and must use their leadership skills to motivate staff, coordinate different content ideas, modify them as necessary, and approve them for release. They must ensure that videos, images, and animations meet all marketing standards, and must also manage digital growth and web traffic and direct brand initiatives. They typically report their progress to a marketing vice president within the organization and use a personal computer to research competitors, organize materials, write reports, and distribute tasks. They should also be proficient with design and marketing software and have strong communication skills to resolve concerns and interact with vendors, clients, and other staff.
Content marketing directors must form cohesive images for products and services based on operational requirements, and may help manage online social media content and respond to inquiries. They also participate in company meetings and provide insights to expand business by using marketing content in different ways. A bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or a computer-related field is generally required for this position, and prior experience in the field is highly beneficial.
