Job Description for Cosmetic Dentist

A cosmetic dentist is a dentist who specializes in enhancing the appearance of their patients’ smiles. This can include repairing chipped, uneven, cracked, or discolored teeth. A cosmetic dentist must know how to utilize various methods to solve these issues, including using porcelain veneers, fillings, bondings, crowns, bridges, and whitening techniques. Cosmetic dentistry is currently not recognized by the American Dental Association as a dental specialty, but it is still practiced in many dental clinics and hospitals.


Cosmetic Dentist Tasks

  • Examine teeth, gums, and related tissues, using dental instruments, x-rays, and other diagnostic equipment.
  • Advise and instruct patients regarding cosmetic dentistry including teeth whitening, contouring, bonding and veneers.
  • Administer anesthetics to limit the amount of pain experienced by patients during procedures.
