The County Commissioner is the face of the county, and it is important to listen closely to the public on every one of these wide-ranging issues in order to work in their citizens' best interest. They must be able to see the obstacles in their way and find ways to compromise and reach agreements which benefit each side as much as possible. As such, another important part of the job involves devising strategies to get these things done within all deadlines and financial limits.
Organization is very important in this position in order to work with and stay within the budget, which usually restarts every spring. County Commissioners may also decide whether or not the budget should be increased and present arguments to support doing so. They are responsible for the foundation on which people live within the county, which must always be taken seriously. Many in this position have prior experience in land planning, in which they may also have worked closely with the community and taken interest in what citizens would like to see built.
