A creative manager in advertising works in the advertising industry and manages a variety of projects in order to market products or services. This is often a management position which involves overseeing a group of graphic designers, copywriters, and other artists. The position may also involve overseeing the budget to make sure campaigns are profitable and the best-possible content for a price range is utilized. Generally, many years of experience in media-related fields are required for this position, and supervisory experience and a portfolio of past work may also be necessary. Creative managers must be able to come up with ideas that are both profitable and unique and may oversee many projects at once, so the abilities to multitask, adhere to deadlines, and work well on a team are essential.
Those in this position may also have direct duties within projects which depend on their skills. For example, if the creative manager has a background in design, he/she may be expected to fulfill design-related duties in addition to management duties. The job may also involve marketing, such as pitching ideas to companies or offering them creative services, so public speaking skills are beneficial.
Generally, a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required. There are both full-time and part-time positions available. The job is generally carried out in an office environment, though some travel may be necessary.
