Cruise directors are responsible for all activities, entertainment, and services provided to guests during their vacation on a cruise ship. They also handle coordination between the ship’s staff and guests to ensure the guests' comfort and welfare. Specifically, they handle coordination of events and hospitality/administrative functions like scheduling, billing, and budgeting, and they must also track the many events that can occur on the ship, ranging from accidents and injuries to reviews and evaluations.Read More...
Cruise directors must be able to travel throughout the ship and work both indoors and outdoors, regardless of weather conditions, while overseeing the entertainment staff and tending to guests' needs at any time of day or night. They may interact with countless guests and staff members throughout the day to ensure that scheduling constraints are met and the guests are satisfied.
A bachelor's degree in a hospitality-related field may be required for this position, and prior work experience in hospitality management or the cruise ship industry is generally required. Cruise ship directors often work their way up through the ranks of a cruise ship and may serve as assistant directors before earning the director's position.
