Job Description for DOT Compliance Manager
The main duty of a DOT compliance manager is to ensure that all state and federal motor vehicle regulatory requirements are met by his or her company. The major tasks are to develop and/or maintain a driver qualification program to ensure that drivers are fully trained on hazardous material transportation and are in compliance with all regulations. They must stay up to date on all state and federal rules, regulations, and legislation in order to properly interpret them and ensure the company is in full compliance at all times. They will provide oversight of the driver qualification system data and review it daily for accuracy and completeness.Read More...
As managers, they supervise and direct subordinates in their daily activities. They schedule and execute major studies of legislative and regulatory changes and report statuses to upper management on a continuing basis. They will represent the company at various regulatory oversight meetings and conferences. As the company expert on this subject, they will assist other departments within the company by providing technical input and insight into regulatory requirements. Most of the work is performed in an office environment, but they will occasionally perform field inspections to monitor compliance.
A bachelor's degree in engineering or business is required, along with five years of experience in a related field. An associate’s degree in engineering or business, along with ten years of experience in a related field, is also acceptable. Excellent organizational skills and proficiency in personal computer tasks are required, along with superior written and verbal communication skills. They must also be capable of acquiring a commercial driver's license.
