Job Description for Dental Ceramist
Dental work is more than just fillings and cleanings. It also involves the creation and installation of dental prosthetics. Dental ceramists create the prosthetics that will be installed in patients' mouths, such as crowns, dentures, bridges, replacement teeth, tooth facings, and any other artificial teeth pieces. To accomplish this, molds are taken of the patients' mouths; should a tooth be missing or damaged, the tooth will be recreated. Dental ceramists need training in a vocational school for dental ceramic certification, an associate's degree in a dental laboratory technology program, or direct experience in a dentist's laboratory.
