I Was Fired
Where to go from here!
Dental Hygienist - (City withheld for privacy), Texas, United States
I would like to tell my story. I have been greatly depressed, confused and in denial for the past month over my situation.

I have to tell a little bit of history first. I worked for a dentist for 5 years. I liked my job there, but I did want a little more flexibility to come in my near future. In the meantime, I had a friend call me to substitute for her office, they had a hygienist out on maternity leave. I went to help them out. Right away I was offered a job working two days only, because his Melanie wanted to be with her children more. She only wanted Mondays. I said no for 6 weeks, then I gave in because I felt it was the best decision for me at the time, especially since Dr. Bell, DDS practically twisted my arm.

Now, I can see that things can be too good to be true. I went to work on June 13, 2007, like any other ordinary work day. I was settled now with my new office. I was building his practice by working hard on public relations with the patients, they began to love me. I demonstrated good skills everyday, my patients would state how well my cleanings were. I helped out. I got along with everyone. I always tried to do what the doctor expected of me. I worked hard to correct any of my faults, mistakes or wrongdoings. I went the extra mile. I never had a disagreement with anyone. I kept my mouth shut and laid low. I tried to be congenial in all matters. The office was running great in my eyes, quite smoothly I might add.

Then about 9 months ago the doctor went with a consulting firm out of Arizona. I was confirmed by the firm as being the hygienist who made the most money for him out of us three hygienist. I made all the reports he requested. I went to all the meetings without pay on Wednesdays to add support. But for some reason, I was singled out of trips with the others to Arizona. I was left out of a numerous of other things they all participated in. I still kept a good attitude and did what was asked of me with a smile.

Then that June 13th day he called me in, told me I was no longer needed and here was my check. I asked, why? He said it was nothing personal... just business. The consulting firm is making a lot of changes and this was one of them. I was told many stories, but I still don't have a clue what the real reason is. My friend that had me go there orginally to help out stated that the firm was looking to having only one hygenist or Melanie had stated to Dr. that she wanted her two days back. Dr. gave me a letter of recommendation stated how well I was with patients. How good my skills were. He stated how I would be good for another office. I now know that it was too good to be true. He has something up his sleeve. He wouldn't be open with me anymore than I told you. I am confused. If it is too good to be true... then IT IS.
