Digital marketing administrators are responsible for overseeing the digital presence and promotions of a company, business, or other organization. This may include social media presence, web sites, email campaigns, text, and other digital-based marketing. Whether they work independently or with other staff members, they must have a strong understanding of how marketing and technology can be combined to accomplish an organization’s goals.
Digital marketing administrators inform the world about their company, its products and/or services, and related activity via the internet and other digital means. Those who work for the government, charities, and other non-profit organizations must also provide information about their organization, its needs, the services it provides, and its “real world” activities.
These administrators must stay on top of all trends, analyze statistics, and follow changes in technology while targeting customers, donors, clients, and others to whom information must be provided. This often includes daily updates of sites and social media accounts and, if applicable, delegating these tasks to other staff members. They typically work in an office and are often contracted by digital marketing companies to provide these services, and hours can vary greatly in this position considering the public’s desire for instant, on-demand information.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work at a fast pace are important in this position, and digital marketing administrators must also have a thorough understanding of how technology and marketing are blended together. Most in this position have at least a bachelor’s degree in marketing or communications, and in-depth knowledge of public relations, advertising, and business management is highly beneficial.
