A digital project manager is the primary driver behind an organization's digitally based initiatives.
Like all project managers, the digital project manager is involved early in the life cycle of a project, helping to establish parameters and requirements. After developing requirements and specifications, the digital project manager must then take the project and divide it into tasks or pieces to be completed by different teams; this includes delegating and explaining the required task and the project as a whole to each team. While each team works on their tasks, the digital project manager continues to monitor progress, ensuring that benchmarks are met by certain deadlines.
Once the individual project pieces are completed, the digital project manager oversees the integration of the pieces into the completed project. They then manage testing to ensure the project meets needed specifications and relevant quality standards. Finally, the digital project manager oversees the delivery of the product to the client and deals with any additional issues that arise after release.
Digital project managers must be organized communicators with a talent for problem solving. Due to the technical nature of the work, a bachelor's degree in a relevant field (which may differ depending on the nature of the digital products) is generally required.
