Directors of patient health care services are responsible for maintaining an environment which ensures that patients are cared-for properly and provided with the highest-quality health care services. These directors work closely with each department of the hospital.
Those in this position have a variety of duties, including: evaluating the effectiveness of each department and improving services when possible; running programs for the hospital; working closely with the directors of each department; speaking with families and patients; and mentoring the head of each department.
These directors generally work in hospitals and/or clinics during traditional business hours. They are often on their feet for most of the day to visit each department and ensure everything is running smoothly.
To be considered for the position, applicants should generally have a bachelor's or master's degree in business, nursing, health care administration, or a related field, a managerial certification in a health care area, five to seven years of experience in the field, excellent verbal and written communication skills, a solid understanding of their employer's policies, and the abilities to think quickly and provide unique solutions to various problems.
