Dispatchers (not police, fire, or ambulance) are responsible for answering all incoming telephone calls, taking down information received from callers, and relaying that information to the drivers in a clear and timely fashion. Dispatchers handle data entry and bookkeeping; for this reason, they must be computer literate and have excellent typing skills. This position is fast paced and requires a great deal of concentration and patience. Dispatchers are required to have excellent communication skills, since they will be dealing directly with our callers; it is important to be well spoken and polite at all times.
This position generally requires working in an isolated office environment, since drivers are out on call. Dispatchers must keep the office organized at all times. They are responsible for opening or closing the office daily. Generally, dispatchers work eight-hour shifts, five days a week; shifts are liable to change at any given time, so dispatchers must be flexible, but they are generally from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 12 a.m.
Dispatchers are required to have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. No office experience is generally required, but some customer service experience is needed. These individuals must be over eighteen and possess a valid state issued driver's license. Moderate knowledge of the shipping industry is desired, but not required, for this position. A strong work ethic and attention to detail are a must.

Notify drivers of pick-up and delivery assignments.
Dispatch drivers for shipment pick-ups and deliveries.
Update shipment tracking system and maintain timely data integrity.
