Job Description for Energy Advisor
Energy advisors are tasked with helping businesses and residential customers to make their homes or buildings more energy-efficient to lower costs related to electricity, gas, and other forms of energy consumption. After analyzing customers' energy use, they may create written plans to improve energy efficiency, and some travel directly to customers' locations to conduct inspections. Some positions may also require energy advisors to work from a call center, and communication skills are important in this position to understand customers' energy use and other circumstances.Read More...
A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field may be required by some employers, while others require only a high school diploma and relevant work experience. Aspiring energy advisors should be proficient in Microsoft Office programs and have strong interpersonal and customer service skills, and the ability to speak a second language, such as Spanish, is beneficial but not necessarily required. Applicants should also be physically fit to lift up to 50 lbs. or climb ladders, and a valid driver's license and clean driving record may also be required. Some energy advisors also attend relevant workshops and/or ongoing education.
