Engineering technicians of semiconductors are tasked with modifying, engineering, and repairing semiconductors in machines, computers, and other electrical systems. These technicians have strong technical skills to evaluate conduction rates and efficiency, as well as strong interpersonal skills to relay information to vendors, staff, and clients.
Those in this position must be organized and pay close attention to detail to minimize errors, and work well with other technicians to complete projects in a timely manner. They should also be able to work independently with minimal supervision and use a computer to verify the quality and composition of semiconductors. Other responsibilities include testing semiconductors in different environments for temperature, sound, quality material, and resistance.
Engineering technicians of semiconductors must be able to read schematics and follow strict guidelines for completing tasks and successful repairs. They often use diagnostic tools to increase reliability and provide recommendations for increased efficiency, and also participate in training workshops and develop business relationships with semiconductor manufacturers. Following strict safety rules is important in this position, as they generally use goggles, gloves, and masks to prevent accidents. They must report any problems or concerns to their supervisors, and other common duties include maintenance and troubleshooting of defective parts and components.
A bachelor's degree in system engineering, computer science, or a related field is generally required for this position, and prior experience with semiconductors is highly beneficial. Relevant industry certifications are also helpful.
