English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) instructors are responsible for teaching English as a second language to non-native English speakers. They may teach in elementary schools, high schools, and universities, or may work for private companies which offer language programs. One important part of the job involves creating lesson plans to teach non-native speakers how to read, write, and speak in English; these lessons may focus on a wide range of topics, including grammar, pronunciation, and conversational skills. These instructors may also prepare activities or workshops for classes and organize field trips to provide students with realistic contexts in which to view the English language.
