However, when adverse events do occur at work, the consultant will conduct an investigation and research into what went wrong. From there, the consultant should be able to come up with methods in order to prevent the accident from reoccurring. The EHS consultant will make sure that various departments and personnel within the company are carrying out the duties of the business in a safe manner and are following company policies and the laws of the land. Onsite observations of various crews should be carried out occasionally in order to create recommendations as to how the operations and work area can be improved regarding health and safety. Inspection of the facility and grounds should also be done in order to discover any harm that is done to the environment and to determine how it can be eliminated. When areas that need to be corrected are identified, the EHS consultant may create plans of action, and sometimes it is essential to arrange for employee training. The consultant may also be able to suggest changes to company policies whenever necessary.
Since some of the work is done in the field, the EHS consultant may be presented with harsh weather conditions. Generally, a bachelor’s degree in occupational health an safety or a similar field is required.
