Etchers/engravers are responsible for performing etching on different products and working with specialized devices to draw and input designs and alphanumerical characters on a variety of products. They typically operate machinery to record designs using specific parameters for engraving, and they must follow strict safety guidelines to prevent accidents while using this equipment.Read More...
Etchers/engravers should be able to listen to clients' needs and preferences, explain the engraving process, and show finished product samples, and they must modify settings to comply with project requirements as needed and use a personal computer to show previews, input design models, and calibrate etching equipment. They use different design tools to personalize offerings in different fonts, colors, patterns, and fabrics, and must verify that all engraving resources are available at all times. They also verify that tables and measurements are detailed and completed before starting the etching process.
Etchers/engravers should be able to stand on their feet for prolonged periods of time and help clean workstations after completing engraving batches. They may also be tasked with taking pictures to demonstrate progress and using engraving pens and stamps. They should be art-oriented for creative efforts on different materials such as glass, wood, plastic, cotton, and metal, and must utilize good eyesight and hand-eye coordination, as well.
A high school diploma may be a minimum requirement for this position, and relevant prior experience is highly beneficial. Industry certifications are also helpful.
