Networking equipment field service engineers plan and create network infrastructure throughout a given area. Routers, firewalls, various computer servers, and software and hardware are all handled by these engineers. When networking equipment is malfunctioning or needs to be installed, the networking equipment field service engineer must troubleshoot these issues and resolve them in a timely matter. These engineers are also responsible for educating professionals who are in contact with or work near the networking machinery, as well as conducting preventative maintenance for equipment. Networking equipment field service engineers also need to document all maintenance and repair work that they perform, as well as test repairs to ensure that all equipment is working after repairs are completed.
Education requirements for networking equipment field service engineers may vary. Some employers require an associate’s degree in computer science or engineering, while others require at least a bachelor's degree in one of those fields. Previous experience in a related experience is often required or preferred as well. Networking equipment field service engineers generally work in the field, and so a valid driver's license and clean driving record are typically needed. These engineers must also be knowledgeable about the networking equipment they service.
