The trucking and transportation fleet manager is usually hired by freight transportation companies and occasionally by larger companies with a freight department. The ideal applicant should have a high school diploma or GED, although some companies may be looking for applicants with an associate's degree. Most companies do not require any experience in the field. The trucking and transportation fleet manager should have a good understanding of how to make spreadsheets and documents using Microsoft Office. Depending on the company, this manager may also need to understand some other software programs such as Navision. The fleet manager will usually be working in an office setting, and travel is not usually expected.
