Verbal Sexual Harassment
Food Service Manager - (City withheld for privacy), North Carolina, United States
Never allow yourself to be surrounded by an all female/ male crew in a kitchen,or any other type of job position or be the only other female/male in the facility. You have no one to confide in or discuss matters with. Conversations by males/females often revolve around their activities and can be quite explicit and is unavoidable not to hear. Any comments that you make can and will be construed and reversed to thier advantage and can be difficult to disprove. They are often loud in their discussions and resernt being told to quiet the conversation. I know, I was one of (2) male employees out of a total 50 employees with kitchen crew of (6) six females between the ages of 25--35 and single/unmarried mothers. What constitutes harassment:?. Asking people to speak softer. Asking not to discuss personal engagements. Hearing and commenting on conversations. Laughing and joining in laughter. Being friendly with employees Greeting people with a hug and a good to see you attitude Hugging an employee around the shoulder and saying great job. "thank you" When asked , How are you? replying with "Sweet and lovable and you" "Are we afraid to be people, must we live in fear of being human and tolerant,of being civil and kind, of being just ME" "People hear what they want to hear and hearit as they want to hear it for thier own personal use and advantage"
