Job Description for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Manager

Geographical information systems (GIS) manager supervises the day-to-day operations of a large team of information technology (IT) workers who produce geographical data by using their knowledge of specialized computer systems. These geographical information systems may be used for road traffic management, heath care, defense planning, market research, or other purposes. The GIS manager's duties and responsibilities include coordinating and managing the system hardware and software, developing GIS applications, making presentations, and conducting training sessions for the staff. Managers also have to control the budget and project costs, as well as recruit and train new staff members.
