A golf club manager is primarily responsible for overseeing the club's day-to-day operations. This person generally works in an office as well as the golf club itself and keep traditional business hours, although extended hours may be necessary and are often expected.
The position of a golf club manager is supervisory in nature, and all other employees of the facility will report to them. Formal educational requirements may include a bachelor’s degree in a business administration- or hospitality management-related field; some universities also offer a PGA glove management university program.
A golf club manager will have a variety of responsibilities, including: hiring, training, and managing all employees; developing and maintaining the golf course and leading all operations; building a customer base; creating promotional materials, organizing golf tournaments; implementing and monitoring procedures; ensuring quality hospitality standards; ensuring consistency with policies; and ensuring all successful and profitable operations.
Those in this position also serve as representatives of the golf club and often represent their business in public forums, so candidates should have expert communication skills, including public speaking and interpersonal relationship skills. They should also be able to make quick decisions about a variety of subjects, from food and budget to hospitality. Marketing and customer service skills are also important.
Golf Club Manager Tasks
Ensure patrons encounter excellent hospitality at all times.
Work closely with senior club Directors to implement strategies and accomplish performance goals.
Recruit, Hire, Train, schedule, coach and develop club staff.
Manage all aspects of club, including bar operations, tennis courts, grounds, pool, golf, and other facilities and events.
