Companies that generate marketing and sales campaigns often have a graphic design manager overseeing the look and feel of these campaigns' artwork. Graphic design managers approve all materials coming from their department, including items as diverse as sales circulars, point-of-sale advertisements, web pages, and signs. Most organizations have a specific branding strategy, and another role of the graphic design manager is to ensure that the artwork developed by their department remains consistent with the brand. Design managers also work with the marketing, advertising, and/or sales teams to determine the required schedule for artwork and/or design work required for campaigns, and they may present these teams with multiple art prototypes for approval and execution. Generally, a bachelor's degree in graphics or art design - or a similar discipline - is required for this position. Most employers also require several years of hands-on graphic or art design experience in a graphic production department as well. Graphic design managers need excellent familiarity with a variety of computer graphic design programs and the ability to train and assist employees as necessary.
