Nobody wants to occupy a building that lacks proper heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. In most areas, at least two of these things are vital for the comfort and safety of the inhabitants. Some buildings have even more stringent environmental control or refrigeration needs, from hospitals to manufacturing plants and museums. Larger structures such as these often have modern, computer-operated climate control, and they employ the services of one, or several, HVAC control systems engineers to satisfy these needs.
HVAC control systems engineers are responsible for every aspect of the implementation of HVAC systems. They will analyze the structure and, based on this analysis, design ventilation and a climate-control system which is optimized for its layout and specific needs. They will organize the installation project and oversee all work done toward that end; when the installation is complete, they will instruct the necessary parties regarding the proper operation and maintenance required to keep the system functional.
HVAC control systems engineers are trained specialists who understand the principles of HVAC, the tools and equipment used, and the specifics of creating a system. Applicants should have a college degree in a relevant engineering field, and most employers prefer those who have a master's degree. However, a bachelor's degree will suffice for applicants who have exceptional knowledge of HVAC and extensive work history with such systems.
