Job Description for Heavy Duty Mechanic

Heavy duty mechanics work with a variety of heavy duty equipment, such as mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and/or pneumatic equipment. They maintain these machines, troubleshoot equipment should something go wrong, and may order supplies and parts. They may also manage inventory and make notes into an inventory system as required by their employers. Heavy duty mechanics must be able to disassemble, clean, and then reassemble a motor. Additionally, they must be cost efficient by analyzing parts and determining whether to order new parts or repair the existing pieces. In all tasks, heavy duty mechanics must be neat, organized, and meticulous in cleaning parts and work stations. Often, heavy duty mechanics work outside with heavy equipment and slippery oils. As such, it's essential they follow organizational safety regulations and HAZMAT procedures as needed.
