Job Description for History Teacher, Postsecondary

Postsecondary history teachers work for public and private colleges and universities, community and junior colleges, vocational schools, professional schools and other postsecondary institutions. They provide instruction to postsecondary students in history, which may include teaching lower- and/or higher-level courses; history teachers at the postsecondary level generally have a specialization in which they teach. They create lessons and exams, respond to student questions, and grade tests and papers produced by students. Outside of class time, postsecondary history teachers usually hold office hours that allow students to ask questions and discuss their progress or concerns. Additionally, these teachers may conduct research and produce scholarship for publication in journals, textbooks or other publications.
