An internal auditing supervisor is the person who is responsible for overseeing the internal auditing department within a firm or organization. This position is one that will primarily work in an office, but light travel is sometimes needed for the job. This is a position which requires a bachelor’s degree in an area such as accounting, business, finance, or public administration. An internal audit supervisor is seen as a leader within their organization. This position can entail a variety of responsibilities and duties, depending on their organization. However, some common responsibilities associated with the position include overseeing all audit planning, overseeing all audit reporting, preparing audit reports, communicating audit findings and recommendations to management, reviewing all audit paperwork, overseeing all daily activities of relevant staff, training and developing the audit staff, ensuring accommodation and compliance with various legal standards, developing and modifying work methods and procedures, prioritizing work duties and scheduling, distributing work to various staff, and interpreting all legal provisions.
This is a person who must have a deep knowledge and understanding of the auditing system, as well as the ability to explain it in “everyday terms” to persons unfamiliar with the field. This person should possess expert critical thinking and analytical skills, relevant computer skills, and highly proficient communication skills.
