An international tax professional manages the taxes of individuals and companies that are doing business outside of the US. The tax professional will help these parties by preparing their taxes and by looking over parts of the US tax return that have to do with international dealings. The international tax professional may come up with solutions for clients and help them to optimize their taxes, while fully adhering to the law. Any mistakes regarding the taxes of the clients should be corrected, in order to help optimize their income. The tax professional should be able to give advice and to answer clients’ questions. Strong communication and customer service skills are needed, in order to work well with clients and other outside parties. It is important to have strong knowledge of applicable laws and regulations and to keep up to date with relevant US and foreign policies. The tax professional may also have to provide audit support for clients.
Usually, a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is necessary. It may be essential to be CPA. Usually this position takes place in an office environment, but some travel may be necessary.
